U3A is a ‘Community of Learning’. It is an exciting and stimulating organisation which gives retired and semi-retired people the chance to come together to learn for the sheer joy of learning. There are no exam or test pressures, just an appreciation that something new has been learned. People gather together to explore ideas, share interests, discuss issues, enjoy each other’s company.
The University of the Third Age, usually called U3A, is a world-wide movement that started in the 1970s. University is used in the sense of people coming together to share knowledge as was done in medieval universities. U3A is a non-political, non-sectarian volunteer organisation and there are no educational requirements for membership.
