The Bay of Islands is a subtropical region known for its stunning beauty and its importance in the early history of New Zealand. Because of our warm climate and lively, cosmopolitan community, this is a popular area for retirees.
U3A Bay of Islands was set up in 1999 and has grown steadily to a membership of over 210. Whilst the majority of our members come from the Kerikeri and Paihia/Opua areas, some come across the Bay from Russell and others from Okaihau, Kaikohe and Kaeo or even further afield.
Our U3A branch is primarily a social organisation for people who enjoy learning and sharing cultural experiences together. Most of our activity takes place in small interest groups, which meet each month in members’ homes, always in the day-time. It’s a great way to meet and make friends with people who have similar interests but a variety of backgrounds, experiences and knowledge.
We also hold five general meetings each year, giving us opportunities to hear interesting speakers and to meet members from other groups.
